Aside from stating that the automotive industry is undergoing significant changes, the spokesperson offered no further explanation for the decision to discontinue production of the Civic Si and its turbocharged 1.5-litre engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The decision doesn\'t affect only the Civic Si, as the manual Acura Integra A-Spec will also be temporarily discontinued.
However—and this is an important point—the spokesperson also confirmed that the situation is temporary and that both the Honda Civic Si and the manual Acura Integra A-Spec are expected to return to the lineup at a later date.
Several sources believe the decision is simply related to the powertrain requiring recertification, which would certainly make sense.
It\'s important to understand that this announcement applies specifically to the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission. As a result, the standard gasoline and hybrid versions of the Honda Civic will continue unaffected. The same goes for the Civic Type R, which uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.
If you ask me, there\'s no reason to worry too much about the future of the Civic Si, especially in an industry where thirsty V8-powered vehicles are still very much alive. Honda has also reassured customers that current production should provide enough inventory to meet demand through the beginning of 2027, after which production of the Civic Si is expected to resume.
